Krovblit’s ever-evolving techniques combine traditional and new methods. Favoring a digital-analog process that begins in photoshop, Krovblit conceptualizes ideas that form blueprints that are used to create scalable, hand-cut collages. The individual layers are printed, cut by hand, then re-assembled and adhered to custom-built, birch panels, and sealed with resin. Krovblit often incorporates unconventional materials and techniques into his work, which allows him to expore new ideas and push the boundaries of collage.
I am equal parts artist and beach bum: super passionate about art and surfing! After many years as an award-winning commercial photographer, I traded in a glorious career for autonomy as a visual artist. I build my concepts by mashing up genres and vintage images, capitalizing on the beauty that exists in the world. I do this by repackaging and recycling the beauty I see around me to tell a new story. I consider myself a curator of lost visual history.
Krovblit's collages reflect the world around him - triggered by the beauty he finds in art, society, nature and day-to-day life. Krovblit draws heavily on pop culture and historical pop culture. In particular, the work of Salvador Dali. The surreal and allegorical imagery spoke to him from a young age. An incredible photograph called ‘Dali Atomicus’, shot by Philippe Halsman (1948) initially compelled Krovblit to explore photography. Being pre-photoshop, and that it took 26 attempts to pull off the picture of a levitating Dali, with three cats flying through the air and more – the analog compositing aspects were awe-inspiring.
